To rent a car you must be at least 25 years of age, hold a valid driver's license and a major credit card. The currency in Puerto Vallarta is the Mexican Peso, U.S. dollar widely accepted.. Required Proof of Citizenship: Valid U.S. passport or state-issued birth certificate with raised seal and photo I.D. back up. Traveling with minors: Minors traveling with only one parent or adults other than their parents must have a notarized letter from the absent parent(s) authorizing them to be taken out of the country.
